How We Make Our Batik Pieces

At House 7, every piece of clothing is a celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and artistry. Our unique batik fabrics are designed to reflect the vibrancy and richness of African culture, combining timeless techniques with modern designs. Here’s how we create our stunning batik pieces:

Premium Fabrics for Lasting Quality

We prioritize the use of 100% cotton fabrics, known for their comfort, durability, and versatility. For select designs, we incorporate high-grade brocade fabrics to add an extra touch of luxury. Cotton remains our primary focus, as it ensures every batik piece is breathable, lightweight, and perfect for Nigeria’s tropical climate.

Crafted by Local Artisans in Itoko, Abeokuta

The heart of our batik-making process lies in Itoko, Abeokuta, a region renowned for its rich tradition of textile art. Our skilled tie-and-dye practitioners, with years of expertise, bring our designs to life. By working directly with local artisans, we ensure every piece carries the authenticity and heritage of Nigeria’s batik craftsmanship.

Sustainability & Ethical Production

At House 7, we are committed to ethical practices. Our collaboration with artisans provides fair wages, supports local communities, and helps preserve traditional craftsmanship. We also ensure our dyes and materials are eco-friendly, minimizing environmental impact while delivering high-quality, sustainable fashion.

The Art of Tie & Dye

  • Design & Preparation:
Each fabric begins with a creative design. Our artisans carefully sketch patterns that reflect the vibrant spirit of African fashion while keeping them versatile enough for modern styles.

  • Waxing & Dyeing:
Using natural and high-quality dyes, we apply a wax-resist technique to the fabric. This intricate process allows the dyes to create vivid patterns that stand out. Our dyes are selected not just for their color vibrancy but also for their durability, ensuring the designs don’t fade over time.

  • Drying & Finishing:
Once dyed, the fabrics are air-dried to preserve their natural texture. The wax is then removed to reveal the striking patterns beneath. Finally, each fabric is thoroughly inspected to ensure premium quality before it’s transformed into clothing.
